B. Identification of Campus Needs/issues and Challenges 

  • Communication Plan for D2L Conversion
    • Identify Course Management System Transition Team
    • Conversion will be in three phases (Spring 07, Summer 07, Fall 07)
      • Spring 07: training and course conversion for current online faculty & courses online for fall 07
      • Summer 07: additional training and course conversion for faculty
      • Summer 07: pilot at least 5 courses in D2L
      • August 07: Go live with all online courses in D2L
      • Fall 07: training adjunct faculty and faculty who will have a web presence for web supported courses

C. Identification of Faculty Needs/Issues
  • Identify levels of technology expertise among faculty
    • Surveys, email, interviews, prior experience
    • Assign faculty/staff to Phase 1, 2, or 3 D2L training
  • Schedule training to accommodate a variety of faculty needs
    • Faculty trainer will establish a tier approach to training
    • Resources will include summer academies and conferences for additional off-campus D2L training
  • Determine faculty interest in course modifications for new D2L tools
    • Resources for additional training
    • Instructional design and development resources
  • Identify use of e-packs and third party resources to determine migration to D2L
  • Schedule training to meet needs of adjunct faculty & non-technology faculty
  • All DSCC courses will have a web presence (syllabus and some course materials online)

D. Requested Resources

  • D2L Training
    • Admin and Train-the-Trainer sessions in January-February
  • D2L-developed materials
    • Copies any D2L materials, manuals, tutorials for distribution to campus faculty
    • Sharing of tutorials, training materials among campuses to eliminate the need to duplicate materials
  • TBR resources for Instructional Design/Developer assistance for faculty who want to make modifications in existing courses
    • Request assistance with LOR materials, use of rubric and competencies in D2L courses, podcasting with D2L, and video for speech courses
  • Onsite training or regional training to minimize travel and time issues
  • D2L model course for training
  • Travel assistance from TBR to send CMS Chair and Faculty Trainer to the D2L Users Conference in Minnesota this summer.
E. Training Activities
  • DSCC training will begin with Train-the-Trainer and Admin training in January-February (see Section F: Timelines for more details)
  • Training will continue with Core Team training for seven selected faculty. Training courses will be available
    • Faculty must complete the first phase of training (6 hours)
    • Lunch seminars and paired training will continue through the Spring 07 Semester
  • Additional faculty training will be offered in Spring 07 for online faculty.
  • Helpdesk staff training will begin in April
  • Course conversion for summer pilot courses will be ongoing
F. Timeline
  • December 2006 – Identification of team and starting the Campus Plan
  • January 2007 – Campus Plan completed; D2L Training begins
    • Campus Awareness/Communication for D2L
    • Surveys conducted for full-time and adjunct faculty on training needs
  • February 2007 – D2L training for course migration and first faculty training begins
    • Course evaluation for D2L course readiness is approved for use
  • March 2007 – Course migration continues/D2L training for trainers/faculty/helpdesk training developed and initiated
  • April 2007 – Course migration continues,/faculty/helpdesk training continues
    • Summer pilot courses identified and evaluated for readiness
  • May 2007 – Course migration for Fall 2007 courses continues,/training continues
  • Summer 2007 –D2L pilot courses
    • Faculty training continues
    • All online courses are converted to D2L
    • Review of data from piloted summer courses/modifications depending on summer course results
  • August 2007 – All existing online courses go live with D2L
  • September 2007-Training for faculty with no online experience
  • October 2007- Training for Math faculty to integrate D2L with QEP goals
    • Fall Conference Focus on D2L training
  • November 2007-December 2007
    • Conversion of courses for Spring 2008 and migration of Fall 07 courses
