8.3 Upgrade Notes
APSU IMPORTANT NOTE: The HOMEPAGE permissions must be set in 8.3 for students etc to view the course widget. 8.1.3 did NOT have this in Roles and Permissions so NO ONE will have those in their old settings. It seems they forgot to TELL US that.
Notes from April 25th (Morning) conference call:
• Problem importing grades
• Uncertainty about making assessment tabs viewable
• Click discussion tab to make gradable
• Continue to need to emphasize DO NOT enter address in “reply to” in email preferences
• Publisher ePack access codes not working in MR 1 – will work in upcoming MR
• Random section folder is purple now (not green)
• Import events into calendar – no format to follow (sample csv file has column heading but no sample data), need further experiment start/end date formats (DSCC may have a clue – will forward)
• Change settings for events in DOME to #2 so only see course events, but in monthly view users still see all
• Can’t check last log-in activity (can check content access dates, but no chronological list)
• Discussion forum/topic: – There is a checkbox for duplicate forum title as topic title but it doesn’t populate the topic title, therefore creates redundant topic
• Role switch not working for instructors – order of role creation may play some part – may need to revisit permissions after all roles created
• No conditional release on discussion board (Error 500)
• More tools are now integrated with the calendar
• When create calendar option, type (public/private) cannot be changed after creation – must delete and recreate – personal is default
• Manage Content: If accidentally add wrong file to topic in content, can now change file w/o deleting topic and recreating
• Whole calendar can be deleted at Org level by any user!!!; acknowledged bug, to be fixed in upcoming release
• Collapsing and expanding of categories in grade categories and content modules now available
• Grade book area now has spreadsheet view, grade set-up wizard
• Import course from 8.1 to 8.3, discussion boards / content with html code doesn’t import properly (html visible)
• “Replace Variables” not always working
• Cannot “Go to Course” from within manage courses (somewhat mitigated by ease of search on homepage)
• Content Tool (Faculty role) get “not authorized” message when try to add learning object
• Email – logged in as faculty; compose message, click address book, checkboxes grayed out; email permissions do not seem to be factor
o Double check permissions at Org and Course level
• For student, under quizzes, see list, choose quiz – no visible way to start quiz
• Some events repeat (seemingly) without being told to do so
• Edit html source code not available to instructors in quiz, news, … (DOME setting may fix this – Ray B to forward details)
o WYSIWYG editor – change setting in DOME will allow
• Is LiveRoom enabled on TEST?
• What behavior will students experience on first log-in relative to list of courses (Most believe students will see an actual list of courses – if list is less than 10 – instead of search box).
• Some schools are actively testing Holding Tank/SIS integration. Initial experience is errors are happening – some new, some user errors. Testing to continue…

Main Issues

- COSCC
o Problem renaming / importing role.
o Classlist widget not working. Filed helpdesk ticket.
o Will not test holding tank until next week.
- MTSU
o Frustrated that email has not changed at all.
o Having problems with the email filtering. Sandy at UOM concurs.
o Change in classlist, but Cheryl Seay reports that you can turn classlist tabs on with admin.
- APSU
o Biggest thing is import / export problems. Code is dirty. Extra characters added to files exported from gradebook. Possibly a character encoding issue? Filename export also names files with illegal characters.
o Have not tested holding tank since they have not been using it.
o FTP issues (firewall) prevent ‘put’ files to D2L.
o APSU needed to turn off D2L email and have been using external email. They are planning on using D2L email next semester, but there is much more work to do.
o Noticed that the test server is slow, but John says it’s because it is not on the fastest hardware.
o MIME types for D2L server. No FLA, SWF until later.
o Problems with gradebook views in Internet Explorer
- CLSCC
o Redesign prevents seeing all courses on home page.
o Concurs with classlist issue
o Do not use Holding Tank because they are happy with their process.
- UOM
o Nothing to add since Mary, Roy and Steve were on call this morning.
o Steve sent another report on Holding Tank. Odd error messages. Still have to verify enrollments.
o Will test area be available while production is down? John says yes.
o Only 10 courses in test org have content.
- TSU
o Good with notes from this morning.
o No problems with integration log. Everything looks good!
o Not happy with the home page. Search rather than list.
- STCC
o Does not like home page. Hates the way courses are listed.
o Imports/exports – had problems with calendar. Errors in files like APSU. Now appears to be working. Calendar seting in display options – default set to all courses. You can change in DOME setting to current courses.
o Problems importing content, but no specifics right now.
Reminder – Train the trainer session at TBR. Wed, Thurs April 30th, May 1st. Session repeats each day. No call next week since there is a meeting. Check the Wiki for the latest information.
